Sir Alastair Cook

Sir Alastair Cook (1998-2003)

Over the course of his career, Alastair was England’s most-capped specialist batsman, captaining England in 59 Tests, as well as 69 ODIs and is the leading run-scorer in Test matches for England and the youngest player to score 12,000 Test runs. He scored a record 33 Test centuries, including one on both his debut and final test match and was the first England player to win 50 Test matches.

Jack Beresford CBE

Jack Beresford CBE (1913-1917)

Jack Beresford captained the rugby team and later took up sculling after a leg wound. He won five Olympic medals across five Games: a silver in 1920, gold in 1924, silver in 1928, gold in 1932 and another gold in 1936. He became the first rower to compete in five Olympics, a record unmatched for forty years and later equalled by Sir Steven Redgrave.

George Furbank

George Furbank (2013-2015)

George Furbank, a Bedford School alumnus, joined Northampton Saints Junior Academy in 2015 and debuted in the senior side in 2018. He helped the Saints reach the 2019 Premiership Rugby Cup final. In 2020, he made his England debut in the Six Nations and scored tries against Scotland and Ireland in 2024. George played a key role in Northampton’s 2023-24 Premiership title victory.

Phelan Hill MBE

Phelan Hill MBE (1987-1997)

Phelan Hill began coxing at Bedford School, UK, at 16 and steered the 1st VIII to a gold medal at the National Schools’ Championships. He later found success with the Great Britain Men’s Eights, earning 11 World Cup medals (2 gold, 3 silver, 6 bronze), 5 World Championship medals (3 gold, 2 silver) and 2 Olympic medals: bronze in 2012 and gold in 2016.

Fraser Dingwall

Fraser Dingwall (2013-2017)

Fraser Dingwall, former Head of School and 1st XV Captain at Bedford School, UK, joined Northampton Saints in 2017. He earned Saints’ Young Player of the Season in 2019/20 and was called up to England’s squad for the 2020 Six Nations and Autumn Nations Cup. Fraser debuted internationally in the 2024 Six Nations and scored the winning try against Wales. He also toured with England in 2022 and 2024, showcasing his leadership.

Ethan Vernon

Ethan Vernon (2007-2018)

Ethan Vernon, a dedicated cyclist since school, competed for Wales in the Commonwealth Games and earned silver at the 2018 Junior World Championship. He secured another silver in the 2020 European Track Championships and helped the team pursuit finish 7th at the Tokyo Olympics. In 2022, he won Commonwealth silver, World Championship gold and bronze. Ethan claimed his first Olympic medal in 2024, winning silver in the Men’s Team Pursuit. He also rides for the UCI team Israel PremierTech.
