Full Boarding School Admission 2027: A Guide for Parents of Years 4–9

Full Boarding School Admission 2027: A Guide for Parents of Years 4–9

Full boarding is a choice about where your daughter will learn, live, make friends, and grow in independence. Understandably, families want to look beyond facilities and see how daily life will support their daughter.

If you are a parent looking for boarding school admission for your daughter, our advice is to first establish readiness and then thoroughly research and visit the campus.

Here’s what to expect and what to consider if you apply to Bedford School Mohali.

Is Your Daughter Ready for Full Boarding?

Pastoral Care

There is no right age to start boarding school that fits everyone. A Year 4 pupil might settle confidently, whereas an older pupil might need more preparation and reassurance.

Ask yourself: Is your daughter able to:

  • Manage daily routines with less adult help.
  • Tell an adult when she is worried, unwell, or needs help.
  • Share space and resolve minor disputes in a rational way.
  • Adapt to new places and routines.
  • Cope with time away from home, with support, even if she feels homesick.
  • Show genuine curiosity about residential school life.

Younger pupils often require more support around routines and adjusting emotionally. In Years 7–9, friendships, academic expectations and personal organisation often become increasingly important.

The benefits of boarding are greatest when independence grows within a dependable system of care. At Bedford School Mohali, guidance remains available as girls gradually take on greater responsibility.

What Should You Look for in an All-Girls Boarding School?

Small Decisions Matter

Once you think your daughter is ready, consider what kind of environment will suit her academically, socially and personally.

The right school is one where your daughter feels safe, participates confidently and makes meaningful progress. Curriculum, pastoral care, residential routines and school culture should all form part of that decision.

Questions to ask any all-girls boarding school:

  • Pastoral care: Who will know your daughter and notice changes in her behaviour?
  • Safeguarding: Are procedures for supervision, reporting and campus access clearly explained?
  • Academic progress: Does the curriculum support her current learning and future plans?
  • Residential routines: How do study, recreation, meals, sleep and weekends fit together?
  • Medical care: What happens if she becomes unwell or needs regular medication?
  • Parent communication: How will you receive updates on academic progress and wellbeing?
  • Broader opportunities: Are sport, creativity, service and leadership part of everyday school life?

If you are comparing options for the Best Boarding School for Girls in India, use rankings and search results as a starting point rather than the final measure of fit.

Why a School Campus Visit For Parents Matters?

School Campus Visit

A school’s facilities and values can be explored online, but it is harder to understand the rhythm of an ordinary day without visiting.

A school campus visit for parents allows you to see the environment, meet the people responsible for pupils, and consider whether the setting feels right for your daughter.

You can also explore our Virtual Tour before visiting, then book a campus visit for a more personal look at academics, boarding, pastoral care and daily school life.

We encourage you to include your daughter in these conversations. Her questions and reactions can reveal what excites or concerns her about boarding.

If you would like more guidance on what to observe during a school visit, our Open House Guide for Parents explains what families can learn by experiencing the campus first-hand.

What Happens After Your Campus Visit?

If the visit confirms that it might be a good fit for your daughter, then you can begin the formal boarding school admission process. Our admissions journey follows these stages:

Stage What you can expect
1. Enquiry and counselling Parents may contact or visit our campus to discuss the curriculum, boarding provision, facilities, and admissions process with the admissions team.
2. Registration Complete the registration form, submit the required documents and pay the registration fee. Registration begins the admissions process but does not guarantee an offer.
3. Assessment and Interaction For upper years, pupils may be required to complete written assessments in English, mathematics and science, as applicable. The assessment is followed by an interaction with the academic team to understand your daughter’s interests, readiness, and proposed year of entry.
4. Review and confirmation The admissions committee reviews the application, assessment results, and interaction. Selected applicants then receive a formal admission offer.
5. Fee payment and seat confirmation Admission is confirmed when the required admission and term fees are paid within the stipulated period. Explore the fee structure here.
6. Orientation and joining Before the session begins, parents and new pupils are invited to an orientation programme to become familiar with the school environment, routines and expectations.

Note: Application requirements and seat availability are subject to change. We therefore recommend that you discuss with our admissions team the specific arrangements for your daughter’s intended year of entry, 2027.

Preparing for the Boarding School Admission Journey

Preparing for admission to the best boarding school in India should build your daughter’s confidence, not add pressure.

Encourage your daughter to read frequently. Talk about what she is learning and speak naturally about her interests and experiences.

How can parents prepare?

  • Collect recent school reports, identity documents and other required records.
  • Note registration, assessment and payment deadlines.
  • Discuss shared rooms, routines, homesickness and time away from home honestly.
  • Ask about any medical, dietary or pastoral requirements your daughter may have.
  • Prepare questions for the assessment, interaction and campus visit.

This preparation creates continuity between the school campus visit for parents, application and eventual transition into boarding life.

Weekends Matter

Boarding is available from Year 3 and above, so years 4-9 are within the current boarding range. We offer full boarding and flexi boarding as residential boarding choices. Day boarding is available separately for families who want the structure and breadth of the boarding day while their daughter returns home each evening.

Full boarders live on campus during term time and go home for holidays and other designated breaks. Girls live in two- or three-person rooms. House parents and residential staff live on site to provide round-the-clock care and guidance.

Our boarding provision includes supervised evening study, common rooms, regular wellbeing check-ins, secure entry and structured home-leave arrangements. We also maintain close communication with parents so that support remains connected between school and home.

Make the Decision Through Experience

The right boarding decision is a mix of your daughter’s readiness, your family’s expectations, and what you experience at the school. Visiting the campus can help you replace assumptions with direct observations and informed questions.

Families considering 2027 admission can book a campus visit with our admissions team.

Admissions are encouraged before the academic session begins but remain open subject to seat availability in the relevant year group. Families considering 2027 entry should begin now, giving themselves time to visit the campus, complete registration, prepare for any assessment and help their daughter understand the move to boarding.

For upper years, pupils may be asked to complete written assessments in English, mathematics and science, as applicable. The written assessment comes first and is followed by an interaction with the academic team. Together, these stages help the school understand your daughter’s current learning, interests and readiness for the proposed year of entry.

During our school campus visit for parents, we encourage you to visit our boarding houses, classrooms, dining areas, medical facilities and spaces for supervised study and recreation. You can also ask our team about evening supervision, weekend routines, home communication and the support available when a pupil feels homesick. Most importantly, the visit allows you to observe how comfortably your daughter responds to our staff, pupils and surroundings.

Registration begins the application process for your daughter, but it does not guarantee an offer of admission. Following registration, applicable upper-year assessments take place before the academic interaction. The admissions committee then reviews the application and assessment outcomes before selected applicants receive a formal offer. Admission is confirmed after the required admission and term fees are paid within the stipulated time.

We help new boarders understand their routines, meet the adults responsible for their care, and become familiar with their boarding house. House parents and residential staff provide guidance, while regular wellbeing check-ins help us identify homesickness or other concerns early. We also communicate with parents so that support remains consistent between school and home.
